WHAT TO DO IN PENICHE

Have you ever wondered what you can do in the area of Peniche? Here is a little guide and some ideas how you can spend your time in Peniche, Baleal and Ferrel - apart from surfing, obviously.

Have a drink at A sunset bar

What can be better than having a tasty cold drink while watching the beautiful sun coming down at Baleal beach? The most popular beach bars are Danau and Tribo da Praia, where there is often a DJ playing or a live musician.

The fun thing is, sitting in those bars you can also watch some surfers, as the bars are located directly in front of a famous surf spot. Grab some friends, your sunglasses and don’t forget a jacket! If the sun is gone it can get pretty chilly sitting outside.

Enjoy local seafood

One thing you should definitely not miss is having Portuguese sea food in a local restaurant. There are plenty of places where you can eat, but if you feel overwhelmed by all the options, here are some of our favorites:

In Ferrel, definitely don’t miss Cantinho Saleio. If you are there and you never had octopus before, try it! A few steps away there is A Casheirinha, which is hidden in a side road. You will love the choice of different meats, just make sure to bring along a good hunger - the portions are huge!

Moving to Peniche there is a place called Marisqueira Mirandum. In this place you will not only eat a plate of seafood - you literally experience it. Also it is great fun to pod the meat of crabs and crack the shells of lobsters. Last but not least you should not miss the Xakra Beach Bar in Peniche. Sitting in a perfect scenery at the beach this place has the best Risotto, regarding to our surf teacher Pedro.

Berlengas Islands are famous for its pure nature and picturesque scenery. The Berlengas’ Islands archipelago is formed by three peculiar islands called Berlenga, Estelas and Farilhões. Pick a sunny day, grab some snacks and drinks and enjoy a marvelous day in the nature. At Berlengas you have the opportunity to see unique land and sea animals, especially when the water is clear and calm.

Hike around, enjoy the views, have a dip in the water and for the extra adventurous people you can also do cliff jumping and get some adrenaline!

How to get to the Berlengas’ Islands?
Starting from Peniche you just have to book a ferry ticket to the islands. Only make sure you book it some days in advance - especially in high season those are sold out quickly! Good websites to book your ticket online in advance are Viamar or Berlengatour.com. Check the schedules and pick the fitting times for you!

Visit the surf shops

Even if you are actually not in the need for something specific or just started surfing, having a look at surf shops is always a good idea! You might find your next dream surf board which you can wish for at Christmas or some souvenirs. Also those shops have beautiful ocean jewelry and cool beach styles with great discount offers.

In Baleal you should definitely have a look at Hang Five. It is more like a concept store, where you can also grab a beer or coffee while a little stroll through the shop - definitely worth a visit! Supporting local brands and offering a really cool surfer style you can find great pieces in this shop. A more classic surf shop in Baleal are the Surfers Lab or the Peniche Surf Shop.

The biggest surf stores in Peniche are 58 Surfshop and Rip Curl (which has also an Rip Curl Outlet). Check them out!

Have a SUNRISE Beach walk in Almagreira

It might sounds like nothing special, but you should definitely set your alarm to 6:00 in the morning and get yourself out of bed. Having a long beach walk at Almagreira when the sun slowly rises, the ocean is flowing and the birds fly on the sky is pure magic. If you find some nice stones on the way pick them up! There’s nothing better than having beautiful shiny stones and muscles as souvenirs from your trip.
