What a week in a surf camp in Peniche really looks like

A surf camp in Peniche is not just about surfing every day. It is about structure, progression and a full surf lifestyle that mixes coaching, recovery and time to enjoy the coast.

At Ferrel Surf House, everything is designed to help you improve in the water while still enjoying the experience outside of surfing.

A typical surf day structure

Most days are built around the ocean conditions, but the rhythm usually follows a clear progression-focused structure. With the Surf & Stay package, you can expect 2 surf lessons per day, adapted to your level and the conditions. The goal is always to put you in the right waves at the right time, not just surf for the sake of it.

With the Surf & Yoga package, the structure changes to 1 surf lesson + 1 yoga class per day, which helps improve mobility, balance and recovery in the water.

We also include 1 to 2 video analysis sessions per week, where you can see your surfing, understand your movements and work on very specific corrections. This is one of the fastest ways to progress.

Extra activities

Beyond the core surf program, there are additional activities depending on the week and conditions.

This can include a surf skate lesson, which helps you translate surf movements on land and improve your coordination. We also sometimes organize extra yoga sessions, including beach yoga when conditions allow it, which makes the experience even more connected to the ocean.

Depending on the vibe of the week, there can also be a trip to Peniche town, a surf house dinner at our restaurant, or a BBQ night at the house.

These moments are part of the surf camp experience, but always optional and adapted to the group.

What to do outside of surfing

Surf trips are also about discovering the area and slowing down between sessions.

On your day off, you can explore nearby places like the Berlenga Island, one of the most beautiful natural reserves in Portugal, or take a short trip to Lisbon or the historic town of Óbidos.

Closer to the surf house, there is plenty to do between sessions. You can walk along the Baleal peninsula, watch the sunset directly from the beach or from the surf house terrace, or simply chill in a café in town.

We also recommend stopping at Cervejaria By Norte, a great place to have a beer and unwind after a surf session.

For more freedom, we rent bikes so you can easily explore the area, ride around Baleal and Peniche, or just enjoy a relaxed ride by the coast.

Why this structure works for progression

This mix of surfing, coaching and downtime is what creates real improvement in the water.

You are not just surfing randomly. You are training, recovering, observing and repeating in the right conditions.

At Ferrel Surf House, this structure is built around one idea: help you progress while still enjoying every part of your surf trip.
